Folsom, an Indian trader, lumberman, land speculator, Minnesota politician, and steamboat owner, including correspondence, 1841, 1851-1900; an account book, 1841-1844, from his business dealings in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; and papers relating to Folsom's activities in the Mississippi-St. Croix Valley. Two additional volumes contain cargo records and passenger lists for his steamboat, the Wyman X, for 1870-1871. Among the correspondence are two letters describing bad conditions in the 1863 Army campaign against the Sioux uprising. |

(2 archives boxes) and 42 photographs (1 folder) Call Number: Oshkosh Mss BE; PH 3586 Abstract: Records of the Alliance, a group of organizations concerned with conservation and wildlife management; including minutes and materials on goose hunting at Horicon Marsh, water pollution, a tour by Stewart Udall and a banquet for Owen Gromme, and the Sixth District Advisory Committee to the National Rivers and Harbors Congress, chaired by John L. Franson, a leader of the Alliance. Photographs are of the Supple Marsh wildlife preserve, ca. 1963, originally a refuse dump on Lake Winnebago and the Fond du Lac River. Included are images of the dump, the surrounding shoreline, migratory ducks and geese, observation buildings, and an on-site inspection by Senator Gaylord Nelson. Also included is a photographic reproduction of the Supple Marsh proposal. |

The rolls include a description of the property, its assessed valuation, and amount of taxes paid. Holdings are incomplete. They include all records for the years 1850-1900, except for a few missing volumes, and the records for every fifth year thereafter beginning with 1905. No records are present for 1960, 1965, or 1985. |

(8 archives boxes) Call Number: Fond du Lac Series 4 Abstract: Files of Mayors Edwin F. Weis (1944-1957) and Victor P. Capelle (1957-1958) including correspondence, minutes and proceedings of various city boards, reports, and other materials, some dating back to 1925.. Much material deals with routine city functions such as police and fire protection, recreation, and planning. Other material deals with post-World War II housing problems, communicable diseases, and civil defense. As a developing industrial city with a limited underground water supply the city also had a serious pollution problem. After 1958, Fond du Lac adopted a city manager form of government. |
Fondy Area Bus Cooperative (Fond du Lac, Wis.) | Title: Fondy Area Bus Cooperative Records, 1968-1978 Quantity: 0.9 c.f. (2 archives boxes and 1 oversize box) Call Number: Oshkosh Mss CJ Abstract: Records of the first cooperatively owned bus company in the United States, which provided public transportation in Fond du Lac, Wis. and surrounding areas from 1968 to 1973. The non-profit business restored bus service to the area following the demise of the privately-owned Fond du Lac Bus Company, and was a pioneering attempt to solve through a cooperative model the financial difficulties typical of urban transportation systems. Included are articles of incorporation and bylaws, minutes of annual and board of directors' meetings, correspondence, annual and monthly reports to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, information about buses and bus schedules, financial records, promotional materials, shareholder records, materials concerning its 1973 sale to the City of Fond du Lac, and records of final dissolution and shareholder monetary distributions. |

Call Number: Mss 882; PH Mss 882; VBB 324; VHA 363-368; Micro 2080; M92-296; M93-090 Abstract: Records, mainly 1917-1982, of Foote, Cone & Belding (FCB), an international advertising agency headquartered in Chicago that was founded in 1873. The firm operated from 1882 to 1942 as Lord & Thomas, from 1942 to 1994 as Foote, Cone & Belding, and as True North Communications from 1994 to 2001, when the Foote, Cone & Belding name was restored. The collection consists almost entirely of microfilmed copies of the print advertising produced for clients between 1917 and 1982. Also included are a small number of television commercials considered the best produced by the firm from 1950 to 1979, books produced by Lord & Thomas on the early theory and practice of advertising, and miscellaneous internal publications, including an internal video magazine, 1994-1996. There are no general administrative records and no papers about the creative development of any advertising campaigns. |

The journals describe this early twentieth century woman's impressions of the scenery, specific locations, people seen, and the activities of her husband and herself. |

Ford, an attorney, career government employee, and former Federal Communications Commission member and chairman. Included are speeches and writings; correspondence; biographical clippings; and subject files relating to equal time and political broadcasting, the fairness doctrine, UHF/VHF allocations, the Legislative Oversight Subcommittee's investigations of the FCC during the 1950's, and many other topics. Files dating both from his early legal career with the FCC and the Federal Security Agency include material on two of the most famous cases to come before the FCC: the Paramount anti-trust case and the George Richards news-slanting case. |

Formed in 1918 as the League of Free Nations and reorganized in 1923, the FPA supplies publications, speakers, and counsel for community-based discussion programs and other events, and also sponsors events for a national audience. The records document the activities, administration, public relations, education efforts, community relations, and finances of the organization, as well as foreign policy and world affairs in all facets throughout the 20th century. Topics include human rights, war, trade, government, defense, world hunger, education, anti-communist activities, and foreign relations. |

Records for 1885-1900 are generally complete. From 1900-1940 only every tenth year has been retained, and beginning in 1955 only every fifth year has been retained. Rolls for 1950 are missing and may have been destroyed. |

(1 box); 10 audio cassettes Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 106 Abstract: Collection contains oral history interviews with former members of the Milwaukee Chicks baseball team, conducted as part of a 1995 oral history course at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Interview materials include abstracts, verbatim transcripts, and audio recordings. Abstracts often provide topical headings and time codes to assist with use. The interviews include information on the players' personal histories and backgrounds, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, their impressions of playing, contracts, uniforms, life on the road, social engagements, the role of women in World War II, and other members of the Chicks. Players interviewed were Thelma Eisen, Viola Griffin (Thompson), Dorothy Hunter, Vivian Sheriffs, Sylvia Straka (Wronski), and Alma Ziegler. The Milwaukee Chicks played only one season in the League (1944), won the championship, and then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. |

The papers contain materials on the War of 1812 in the West, including correspondence (1812-1817) of the territorial governors of Illinois and Missouri, Ninian Edwards and William Clark, concerning military operations in Illinois and American attempts to secure Indian allies. |

(1 archives box and 2 volumes) Call Number: Eau Claire Mss O Abstract: Fragmentary records of Foster, a native of New York state who came to Wisconsin in 1854 and became a prominent lumberman and logging railroad operator headquartered at Fairchild after 1876. The collection contains political correspondence with representative James A. Frear; miscellaneous business papers including land titles, maps, mortgages, and financial records pertaining to his land and timber investments in Eau Claire and Clark counties; a few records relating to the Fairchild and Northwestern Railroad constructed by Foster in 1913; and a journal, 1908-1936, of the N.C. Foster Lumber Company. One folder contains land deeds and other business papers, 1830-1870, concerning Daniel Bread and the first Christian Party of the Oneida Nation of Indians. |

The bulk of the collection documents programs and projects including the Community Housing Alternatives Program (CHAP), the Housing Initiative Program (HIP), the National Demonstration Water Project (NDWP), the Wisconsin Fund (Private Sewage System Grant), and the Volunteer Senior Home Repair Program. Administrative files documenting Board of Directors meetings and grant reports as well as photographs documenting the early years of the home building and repair program are also present. |

(50 boxes); 1 database Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 41 Abstract: The collection contains files on over 5,000 Wisconsin businesses, each of which employed more than 100 employees. The information was solicited, collated and organized between 1987 and the present, but information dates from 1880 to the present. The contents in each file varies, but most include survey forms, newspaper clippings, and information reproduced from other published sources. The collection also includes a database that can be searched on 32 different fields and includes references to the repositories throughout the state where company records can be found. The database includes the company name, location (city and county), incorporation date, names of founders, Standard Industrial Classification codes (as determined by the initial study coordinators), and any other names or the names of parent/subsidiary companies associated with the company. |

Included are sacramental record books, and a photograph album and book of historical essays on the church Ladies Aid. Early records are in Norwegian. Photographs include images of the churches and parsonages, 1912-1937. |

Fox Valley Water Quality Planning Agency | Title: Fox Valley Water Quality Planning Agency Records, 1976-1984 Quantity: 3.6 c.f. (3 record center cartons and 2 archives boxes) Call Number: M90-083 Abstract: Records compiled by William Nelson and Jack Jaynes, employees of Green Bay Packaging Corporation (Wisconsin) and industrial members of the Fox Valley Water Quality Planning Agency’s Industry Rivers Study Committee (IRSC). The Agency, funded by the federal government and five counties along the Fox River, was established in response to the 1972 Water Pollution Control Act. Industrial members of the Agency included most of the major paper companies in Wisconsin. The IRSC collected a variety of data on the river and developed models concerning wasteload allocation and pollution control. Included are minutes of committee meetings, notes taken at meetings, correspondence, memos, newsletters, reports, technical data, presentations to the Natural Resources Board, clippings, and proposals. |
