Earling, Albert J., 1848-1925	Title: Albert J. Earling Papers, 1885-1948 Quantity: 1.2 c.f. (3 archives boxes and 1 flat box) Call Number: Milwaukee Mss BP Abstract: Records of Earling, president, 1899-1917, and chairman of the board, 1917-1919, of the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad Company, of his daughter Harriet (1877-1962) and of her three husbands, businessman Lawrence Fitch (1874-1924), lawyer Frederick G. Thwaits (1871-1944), and real estate broker and art collector Walter Dake (died 1958), all of Milwaukee. Earling's papers include railroad reports and statistics, 1901, a few business letters including two from William Rockefeller in 1906 concerning the railroad company's finances, and a folder of biographical materials. Fitch is represented by miscellaneous business papers, 1912-1915, and minutes of the board of directors of the Western Malleables Iron Company, Beaver Dam, Wis., 1914-1924. The major part of the collection concerns Harriet Earling's civic and social interests including the Fatherless Children of France, 1917-1920, the Milwaukee Service Club, 1926-1948, and the Woman's Club of Wisconsin, 1943-1945. Several letters in 1920 pertain to an unsuccessful attempt to nominate Herbert Hoover for the Presidency at the Republican National Convention. Among the other correspondents are Theodore Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., Herbert Hoover, Edgar Lee Masters, and George C. Aid. The collection contains genealogical data on the Earling, Fitch, and Tilton families.
Earth Day Steering Committee (La Crosse, Wis.)	Title: Earth Day Steering Committee Papers Physical Description: 0.2 cubic feet Call Number: MSS 012 Abstract: Although a variety of organizations in La Crosse had sponsored various environmental activities and events over the years and many participated in the first Earth Day in 1970, there had never been any kind of coordinated event until Earth Day 1990. Through the efforts of the Earth Day Steering Committee, local groups were contacted and an attempt to coordinate environmental activities in the area on April 22, 1990, was successful. Materials of the local Earth Day Steering Committee, including memos, agendas, notes, schedule of events, correspondence, and publicity. The leadership of the steering committee came from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Geography and Earth Sciences Department and Career Services.

Includes a brief history written for the 115th anniversary celebration in 1969.
Eastbank Artists, Inc.	Title: Eastbank Artists, Inc. Records Physical Description: 1.8 cubic feet Call Number: MSS 053 Abstract: Eastbank Artists, Inc., was formed in 1976 by three La Crosse, Wisconsin, area artists who wanted more visibility and marketing of their artistic wares than they could accomplish independently. Until 1999, the organization hosted exhibits at the Pump House, the home of the Western Wisconsin Regional Arts agency. Records include by-laws, 1987 and 1997; a directory of member artists with some biographical content, 1976-1985; a guest book of visitors to the exhibits, 1977-circa 1981; historical scrapbooks of the organization, 1976-2001; a collection of posters and newspaper clippings, 1976-1988; and finally meeting minutes, 1978-1999 (which also include some financial records). The collection also includes some 35mm slides of artists' work and exhibits.
Eastern Illinois University. School of Fine Arts	Title: East Central and Southeastern Illinois Folk Arts Surveys Collection, 1976-2003 Contents: Tarble Arts Center: 21 folders, 6 binders, 2 filing cabinets, 400 sound recordings, 4,398 color slides, 34 videocassettes, and 1 film Unique Identifier: CSUMC0029-CG Summary: Records from three surveys of southeastern Illinois folk arts, conducted by half a dozen fieldworkers through the Eastern Illinois University (EIU) School of Fine Arts, document over 150 traditional artists and musicians. The first survey (1976-1977) canvassed the southeastern sixth of the state and resulted in a 1977 EIU Sargent Gallery exhibition that included artist demonstrations. Many of the featured artists also appeared in the 1977 Festival of the Arts Celebration on the Charleston, Illinois campus. A follow-up survey (1978-1980) narrowed the view to traditional artists within a 50-mile radius of campus and contributed to EIU's 1979 Festival of the Arts Celebration. The third survey (1983-1985) focused on traditional musicians and folk artists chiefly in and around Danville and Decatur in Vermilion and Macon counties. Documentation from the surveys, now housed at the Tarble Arts Center on the EIU campus, also informed a 30-minute TV documentary about three of the region's folk artists.

Eaton, Edward Dwight, 1851-1942	Title: Edward Dwight Eaton Papers, 1826-1947 Quantity: 3.8 c.f. (18 archives boxes) Call Number: Wis Mss ON Abstract: Correspondence, diaries, and sermons of Edward Dwight Eaton, a native of Lancaster, Wisconsin, who was a Congregational minister and president of Beloit College, 1886-1917, and 1923. The greater part of the collection consists of correspondence between Eaton and members of his immediate family, including his father, Samuel Witt Eaton, and his wife's parents, J. Allen Barber and Elizabeth Banfill Barber.

The Association established the Civic Art Center within the Eau Claire Public Library and opened its first exhibit, the First Hallmark Art Award Show, on April 9, 1958. Of special note are pupil records (1883-1965) and records relating to the superintendent's supervision of teachers (1874-1965). Pupil records provide information on individual students within the district and can include grades, attendance records, and family information. Records relating to the supervision of teachers often contain the teacher's biographical information, grades, certification status, and teaching experience. Records of county schools include records from six school districts in Eau Claire County. Most heavily represented is the Town of Washington District No. 3, Lowes Creek School (1873-1990), with financial records, meeting minutes, and numerous photographs. Others represented are Altoona School, Town of Brunswick District No. 1, Town of Hallie District No. 7, Town of Washington District No. 1, and Town of Washington Joint District No. 9, Brackett Elementary School.

(2 archives boxes) Call Number: Eau Claire Mss CX Abstract: Records of the Eau Claire Technical Society which was founded in 1946 as the Northwest Wisconsin Engineers but in 1952 changed its name to incorporate other related technical fields into the organization. The Society invited guest speakers or conducted tours of various manufacturing facilities during their monthly meetings. They also awarded a scholarship, beginning in 1956, to a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire incoming freshman majoring in engineering. The records consist of minutes, membership lists, correspondence, and amended constitutions.

City Council: Proceedings, 1872-1959 Quantity: 7 reels of microfilm (35 mm) Call Number: Eau Claire Micro Series 2 Abstract: Minutes of meetings, resolutions, ordinances, reports to the Council by city officials and Council committees, inaugural addresses of the mayor, record of accounts and orders paid, legal opinions of the city attorney, and annual financial reports of the City Treasurer and City Clerk. A record of licenses issued by the City Clerk for 1872-1873 is at the end of Volume 1. The series consists of scrapbooks of clippings of the published, official proceedings taken from city newspapers. Some of the paper had deteriorated prior to filming and is illegible.

Routine matters include “fixing” of parking tickets, job recommendations, petitions, the Wisconsin Retirement Fund, promotion of Eau Claire as both a convention site and an industrial site, and the furtherance of highway construction. Problems specifically related to World War II include unemployment, purchase of war bonds, attempts to get needed city employees out of the service early, and the rationing caused by the war. Many of the letters are to and from prominent Wisconsin politicians such as Congressman Merlin Hull, Senators Alexander Wiley and R. M. La Follette, Jr., and Governors Julius Heil and Walter Goodland.
