Series: Part 1: (U.S. Mss 147AN) Original Collection, 1963-1973
Physical Description: 6.0 c.f. (15 archives boxes)
Scope and Content Note

The original collection has been arranged into three series: BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION, BOOKS-PUBLISHED, and BOOKS-UNPUBLISHED.

The first series, BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION, is very brief, containing only one folder with autobiographical notes written by McBride.

The bulk of Part 1 of the collection is contained in the second series, BOOKS-PUBLISHED. The material is segregated by each individual book and then arranged chronologically according to publishing date. The material provides excellent documentation of the logical fashion in which McBride prepared his books. Most of the material consists of the rough drafts of individual chapters, though some research material is also included. There is a small amount of correspondence, mostly between McBride and his publishers.

The final series, BOOKS-UNPUBLISHED, contains the correspondence, rough drafts, and research materials used in his early book, The Language of Baseball. Documentation on this work is also found in the files on the published book High and Inside in Part 2 of this register.
