Correspondence concerning local government accounting, auditing, and fiscal matters for record and reference purposes. Included are letters from private citizens, news clippings, transcripts, surveys, inspection reports, and installation reports with county and municipal officials concerning accounting, auditing, and fiscal matters. The records detail the specifics of scheduling audits, billing and receiving payment for same, and answering questions on accounting and auditing policy. Audits were conducted by a crew of staff auditors (70-80 in number) located around the state who operated within a specific range or county area. The Bureau specialized in post-audits which are “audits covering all financial records of the most recently completed fiscal period and represent a method of independent, external control.” Record copies of these audits are kept in series 1944 - Municipal Audit Reports, 1908-1983.
