Copies of official orders issued by the Governor and filed with the Secretary of State; showing order number, name of prisoner or parolee, name of institution, nature of crime, name of court making conviction, specifications of the order releasing or transferring the prisoner, and signatures of the Governor and the Secretary of State. Orders were required when prisoners needed to be moved for medical treatment, for transfer to a mental health institution, or to testify in court. Parolees and prisoners on probation needed official permission to leave the state for employment or personal reasons which makes the prison orders useful for tracking individual prisoners after release. The original copy of the order was filed in the prison or parolee's case file. English
