Abstract: Segments from eight episodes of network television's first early morning program, Today, which aired on NBC beginning in January, 1952. The episodes held in the archives are primarily from the years 1979 and 1980 when Betty Rollin was being tested on the air to fill the position left by Barbara Walters when she exited the show. One of the episodes is from 1987. VBA 792-796 are 3/4" videocassettes in color with sound. All the other videotapes are 1/2" videocassettes in color with sound.

Abstract: Papers of student activists Todd Gitlin and Nanci Hollander including correspondence and subject files relating to his leadership of student peace and protest groups at Harvard and her participation in similar groups at the University of Michigan. Material on his presidency of SDS may be found in the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) records, though this collection does include a draft and related correspondence and papers for Uptown: Poor Whites in Chicago (1970), which was based on their involvement with SDS's Jobs or Income Now project (JOIN). Much of the correspondence concerns TOCSIN, a disarmament organization at Harvard, its involvement with Turn Toward Peace, the Washington Action demonstration, and the senatorial campaign of H. Stuart Hughes in 1962. Prominent correspondents include Cyrus Eaton, Sanford Gottlieb, Jerome Grossman, Hubert H. Humphrey, Jacob K. Javits, Robert Kastenmeier, David Riesman, C. P. Snow, U Thant, and James A. Wechsler.

Abstract: Papers of Tom and Karolyn Kerry, leaders of the Socialist Workers Party: he as an editor and national organizer and she as a labor activist and party worker. Included are biographical information, a bibliography, correspondence, speeches and writings, and miscellany. Among the correspondence are exchanges with various SWP leaders including James Cannon (1938) and Farrell Dobbs (1950s) about internal party matters. Correspondence with George Breitman, Louis Sinclair, and others concerns articles for The Militant and the International Socialist Review. Also represented are the activities of socialist youth leader Tim Wohlforth and San Francisco union leader Nat Weinstein. There is one letter from Lyndon LaRouche, Jr. Personal correspondence documents Kerry's shipboard experiences within the International Seamen's Union (1939-1941) and Karolyn Kerry's friendship with the wives of other SWP leaders.

Abstract: Papers of Tom Donavan, a television producer-director known for his work on dramatic anthologies and daytime serials. Of the many programs on which Donovan worked, the collection is best for CBS Daytime 90, Hallmark Hall of Fame (NBC), Love Is a Many Splendored Thing (CBS), Love of Life (CBS), Studio One (CBS), United States Steel Hour (CBS), Where the Heart Is (CBS), and A World Apart (ABC). Types of documentation include correspondence, scripts, notes, budgets, set designs, photographs, and reviews. Other sections contain minutes and correspondence pertaining to his activities in the Directors Guild of America and miscellaneous correspondence with other professional organizations.

Abstract: Photocopied papers concerning civil rights and black history collected during the 1960s and 1970s by Shick, a professor in the Afro-American Studies Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Included are files on the alleged conspiracy to assassinate Roy Wilkins and Whitney Young in Jamaica, New York in 1967; the 1972 Black Political Convention in Gary, Indiana; the Institute of the Black World; Nairobi College, an alternative school in California; Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee position papers, primarily letters and statements by James Forman on the relationship between the black American movement and Africa, 1966-1967; near-print material on the Soledad Brothers and the Venceremos Brigade; and the campaign of Warren Widener for mayor of Berkeley, California.

Abstract: Ninety-one episodes of Tombstone Territory, a half-hour western series that ran on ABC and in syndication from 1959 to 1960, about the exploits of Harris Clayton, editor of the Tombstone Epitaph, as he attempts to establish peace through the power of the press. All the films are 16mm prints in black and white with sound. Each episode is approximately 950 feet long.

Abstract: Papers, 1934-1964, of Toni Sender, a United States labor activist who was the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions' delegate to the United Nations. Included is correspondence; diaries; and reports, memos, and speeches relating to her work as director of European labor research for the Office of Strategic Services, 1941-1944; senior economist for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, 1944-1946; and consultant to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, 1946-1956. The collection contains information on displaced persons, forced labor, economic affairs in Austria and Czechoslovakia particularly, and German labor personalities. Significant correspondents include Herbert Morrison, Herta Gotthelf, Paul Löbe, Fritz Heine, Wilhelm Sander, Julius Braunthal, and William Green. Also present are minutes of the International League for the Rights of Man, drafts of Sender's Autobiography of a German Rebel describing her experiences as a German citizen and Reichstag member before Hitler's rise, and other biographical material.

Abstract: Papers of a leader of Milwaukee's Hispanic community from 1970 to 1979 when he returned to his native Puerto Rico. Memoranda, minutes, agenda, and budgets relate to his work with Advocate Education Program-Teacher Corps for Corrections-Milwaukee, which worked with juvenile delinquents. Concerning his work with the Community Independent Learning Program, an alternative high school in which he taught Puerto Rican history, are grant proposals, articles of incorporation and by-laws, curriculum materials, correspondence, and student evaluations. Additional grant proposals, minutes, statistics, notes, correspondence, and reference files related to other bilingual/bicultural programs and educational conferences with which he was involved.

Abstract: Records of the Town and Gown Club, an all-male club founded in 1878 whose members included University of Wisconsin professors and administrators, state governors, and other prominent Madison men, consisting mainly of bound volumes of meeting minutes, 1894-1987. Held fortnightly on Saturday evenings at members’ homes, meetings generally consisted of a dinner, a short paper on some topic of the day, and an informal discussion. Also included are membership lists, some correspondence, and a copy of the Golden Anniversary of the Town and Gown, 1878-1928.

Abstract: Records maintained by the Town Clerk, Treasurer, Assessor, and other officers for the Town of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The town was created in 1838 and disappeared as a legal entity in 1955. Records document both the evolving forms and functions of town government and the transition of this local area from a sparsely settled agricultural frontier to a distinctly urban and suburban region.
