(1 archives box) Call Number: Whitewater Mss AP Abstract: Papers of Rubie Bond, a Beloit, Wisconsin, resident, chiefly pertaining to a number of local civil rights and black service organizations in which she was active: the Women's Community Club, the Mothers' Club, and the Beloit Council on Human Relations. Included are a constitution, by-laws, and minutes of the Women's Community Club, and minutes and other papers of the Mothers' Club. Scattered correspondence in the collection deals with her attempts to set up an interracial organization in Beloit in 1930, the organization in 1953 of the human rights council, and her 1959 nomination to the Governor's Commission on Human Rights (which she refused). |

(5 archives boxes), 2 reels of microfilm (35mm), and 2 disc recordings Call Number: Mss 761; Micro 1163; Disc 189A Abstract: Papers, mainly 1925-1955, of Rubin Levin, a labor journalist who was associated with the Milwaukee Leader and other Wisconsin newspapers during the 1930's and who was editor of Labor from 1953 to 1981. Included are biographical materials; personal correspondence exchanged with friends and family; a few papers of his wife Bertha Greenberg Levin, who worked as a free-lance publicist during the 1930's; and subject files concerning Labor, the Labor Press Association, and Milwaukee politics and government. The personal correspondence includes many letters to and from his wife written in 1938, the year of his first work in Washington, D.C., and her first pregnancy and a few letters concerning a brother associated with Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin. Levin's writings include unpublished articles and stories; a literary journal kept during the 1920's when he traveled widely through the United States, Canada, and Europe; published free-lance articles; and a collection of his newspaper work which is available only on microfilm. |

Included are records of land purchases and registrations (giving purchaser's name, section, and amount paid), accounts (including item prices), and copies of letters concerning the formation of school districts, common grain storage facilities, and difficulties with the federal government. |

Shoemaker, secretary-treasurer of the company, and a few fragmentary minutes of directors' and stockholders' meetings are scattered through the volumes. |

(14 volumes) Call Number: Rusk Series 8 Abstract: Record of lands sold for delinquent taxes showing certificate number, land description, location, date of sales, year for which tax was delinquent, certificate purchaser, and amount of delinquent tax. Also shown, when applicable, is the person or firm to which the land was deeded, or record of redemption with dates and costs for such actions. Volume 10 (1922-1924) also includes delinquent drainage tax sales. Volumes 12-14 (1927-1931) include delinquent property tax and drainage tax returns. Rusk County was formed in 1901 and until 1905 named Gates County. The volumes prior to 1901 are transcripts of sales from Chippewa County for lands which later became part of Rusk County. |

The papers consist of biographical information, correspondence, and articles by and about Jones. The majority of the collection is composed of articles by Jones regarding the revolt in Hungary during which time he was the only Western reporter in Budapest. The photographs depict Jones as a youth and reporting on various foreign conflicts including World War II. |

Prominent correspondents include John Cudahy, Joseph E. Davies, and John Wickhem. |

(19 archives boxes), 2 reels of microfilm (35mm), and photographs Call Number: U.S. Mss 28AN; Micro 1177; Item A399; Lot A113-A114 Abstract: Papers of Ruth Goodman Goetz, a playwright and screenwriter, together with papers of two members of her theatrical family: her father, Philip Goodman (1885-1940), who was a producer of Broadway plays and musicals, and her husband and collaborator, Augustus Goetz (1889-1957). Also present are papers of agent Leah Salisbury pertaining to her management of Goetz's literary interests. Philip Goodman's papers include correspondence, contracts, agreements, financial records, and typescript copies of plays produced or written by Goodman. The work of Ruth Goodman and Augustus Goetz includes scripts, correspondence, and financial records for stage and screen plays such as Carrie (Paramount, 1952), The Immoralist (1954), The Hidden River (1957), and One Man Show (1945). The Heiress, for which the Goetzes adapted both the stage (1947) and screen (Paramount, 1949) versions, is partially documented, although scripts for neither are present. A large part of the correspondence is letters exchanged between Mrs. Goetz and her daughter over a thirty-year period. Also part of the collection is a typescript journal of a trip made to China in 1978; references to associations with Clifford Odets, S. J. Perelman, and David Selznick; and undated costume plates. |

(1 box) Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 94 Abstract: This collection mainly documents Ruth Kriehn's time at the Mary Wigman School of Dance in Berlin from 1951 to 1952 and her friendship with and admiration for Mary Wigman, a world-famous modern dance pioneer. Included are Kriehn's typed memoirs, letters from Wigman to Kriehn, and photographs of Wigman. Articles and newspaper clippings about Wigman are also included in the collection. The collection also contains some information about other teachers at the Wigman School, including Margret Dietz. Of particular interest are the war stories from those at the school and the descriptions of life in Berlin after the war. |
