(6 archives boxes and 3 flat boxes) and 11 photographs (1 folder) Call Number: La Crosse Mss DG; PH La Crosse Mss DG Abstract: The records of the Twentieth Century Club, a women's civic organization founded by eight women on April 29, 1901, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to discuss the arts and to support charities, education and social reform. Later that year, it became associated with the State Federated Women's Clubs. Records consist primarily of minutes, programs, and scrapbooks; the latter include newspaper clippings, photographs, ephemera and original watercolor drawings. Annual reports and other reports are included in the minutes and occasionally in the scrapbooks. The photographs include images of meetings and performances put on by the club. |

Title: Nathan Crook Twining Papers, 1864, 1886-1917 Quantity: 0.2 c.f. (1 archives box) Call Number: Wis Mss CR Abstract: Papers consisting primarily of letters, 1886-1917, written by Admiral Nathan C. Twining, a native of Boscobel, Wisconsin, to his brother Clarence, referring mainly to family and budgetary matters. A few discuss public affairs in which the admiral was involved. Four letters to “Fritz” written between November 1886 and May 1887 comment on life at the Naval Academy, and contain comparisons with student life at the University of Wisconsin and in Monroe, Wisconsin. Also included is a single volume of a diary, 1864, kept by Twining's parents, Nathan Crook and Phoebe Ann Twining, which mainly details family life and personal events. |
