Included are exchanges with friends, family, advocacy groups, state agencies, other legislators, and ordinary citizens concerning most of the important legislative and political issues of the period. Among the most frequent correspondents are fellow legislators Guy Benson, Selmer Gunderson, Earl Hanson, H.E. Heden, and Warren P. Knowles and Dr. J. Arthur Riegel who became a member of the Conservation Commission. Also included are discussions of the early activities of the Legislative Council, of which he was a charter member and frequent references to his personal banking interests and to his activity in Wisconsin Indian Head Country, Inc., an organization to promote tourism. |

Peacock chaired the local bridge committee. Included is correspondence with Senator John J. Blaine and bridge investors, minutes of the bridge committee and the chamber of commerce, architectural plans, and clippings and broadsides, plus miscellaneous business papers. The photograph album documents the construction and opening of the bridge, 1931-1932. |
| Pearce, Charles Chester, 1888-1974 | Title: Charles C. Pearce Papers, 1907-1973 Quantity: 4.8 c.f. (12 archives boxes) Call Number: Mss 342 Abstract: Personal and professional papers of Charles C. Pearce, a lawyer who practiced in Washington, D.C. and New York City, and was a special assistant to the Attorney General of the United States from 1938 to 1946. Included is general correspondence, material relating to his work with the antitrust division of the United States Justice Department, private legal practice files, and personal papers. Papers relate to a variety of cases; however, the best documentation is of a fertilizer industry investigation, 1939-1940, and a small loan investigation, 1943-1944, done for the Justice Department. Also well documented are claims of German expatriots for property confiscated by Nazi Germany in World War II, handled by Pearce in his private practice working with the Milwaukee law firm of Wengert and Spenner through the Office of Alien Property and the War Claims Commission. Other papers concern the prosecution of a grocery monopoly case in Seattle, 1941-1942, and of a monopoly of soft drink distribution by Pepsi, Coca Cola, and local distributors, 1941-1942; the dissolution of the Japanese monopolistic control groups, 1946; research on food additive legislation from his work for South Dakota Congressman Usher Burdick, 1956-1957; settlement of the Amy Lesher estate, 1960s; and miscellaneous topics of personal interest. |

(23 archives boxes and 1 oversize folder), 17 tape recordings, and 4 photographs Call Number: Mss 845; Tape 1280A; PH Mss 845 Abstract: Papers of social activist and academic sociologist Sidney Peck, documenting his involvement in the anti-Vietnam war movement; anti-nuclear, disarmament, and peace movements; as well as his recorded discussions with labor union shop stewards, made in the course of research on working-class consciousness for his University of Wisconsin doctoral dissertation (1959) and subsequent book, The Rank and File Leader (1963). Over half of the collection consists of FBI files obtained under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and materials relating to hearings and court cases involving Peck which grew out of the FOIA. Correspondence, clippings, speeches, conference reports and resolutions, oral history interviews and other tape recordings, posters, and photographs constitute the remainder of the collection. |

The propaganda illustrations are photographic reproductions of propaganda posters distributed by the U.S. Army and the War Department. The Impact magazines, dated 1943-1945, were publications produced by the Office of the Assistant Chief of Air Staff, Intelligence. The magazines contain information and photographs about airplanes, equipment, tactics, and mission results. There are no biographical documents or personal papers of Fred Pederson in this collection. |

The bulk of the collection consists of shooting scripts, research, transcripts of interviews, films, financial records, and reviews relating to ABC News' Scope and Directions series and to a number of individual news specials aired by that network. Among the subjects treated are marijuana and drug abuse, abortion, race relations, the welfare system, violence in Northern Ireland, nuclear power, and the Vietnam conflict and the problems of the veterans of that era. Also present are script materials for Guns of August (Universal, 1964), a full-length documentary film about World War I; Feeling Good, a PBS series on health; and files on several unproduced titles. Dramatic writings are less well represented, but include four plays and a script for DuPont Show of the Week (NBC). |

Included are correspondence, reports, land use planning data, and a reference file of Wisconsin county and local zoning ordinances. The collection includes reports on various planning projects in which Penn or the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Wisconsin was involved including assessments of rural zoning during the 1930s and the northern resettlement project. Also included are materials on his involvement in the Forest Crop Advisory Committee during the 1960s and in the attempt to strengthen Wisconsin's water pollution legislation during the 1950s. The zoning reference file most extensively documents Penn's zoning work in Eau Claire and Oneida Counties. |

Also included are several diaries kept by members of the regiment, minutes and a financial statement of the Association, and two tape-recorded interviews on three cassettes. |

(27 record center cartons and 25 archives boxes), 474 photographs, and 8 negatives Call Number: Northland Mss I; PH 3925 Abstract: Records of a hardwood veneer and plywood company which operated in northwestern Wisconsin and of its subsidiaries and associated companies, Splicedwood Corporation, Chequamegon Forest Products, and F.A. MacDonald Co. Also included is considerable material from conservative political organizations and manufacturers associations which document their anti-Communist ideas, opposition to unions, and efforts to affect national trade policy and limit the importation of Japanese plywood. Files consist of correspondence, newsletters, sales and production reports, inventories, personnel files, files of company attorney Richard R. Prittie, and financial and administrative records. Prominent correspondents are Joseph McCarthy, Alexander Wiley, and Alvin O'Konski. Prominent manufacturers' associations represented are the Hardwood Plywood Institute, National Lumber Manufacturers Association, National Association of Manufacturers, Northern Hemlock and Manufacturers Association, Veneer Association, and the Wisconsin Manufacturers Association. Penokee founder M. C. McIver served as a director of Northland College (Ashland, Wisconsin); the college is documented by correspondence, financial material, and information on the Freedom Leaders Councils held in the 1950s. Photographs are related to employees, operations, and products of the company throughout its history. They include documentation of each step in the veneer making process. |

The collection includes the People's Office Handbook, leases, minutes, the People's Release weekly newsletter, logbooks of telephone calls and community problems received, “bust sheets,” and printed material. |

(3 archives boxes) Call Number: Mss 489 Abstract: Records of People's Video, a communications service founded in 1972 to provide technical training and public access programming for cable television in Madison, Wisconsin, in order to promote community dialogue and social change. The collection is largely composed of correspondence and grant proposals and other than unprocessed tapes and films there is little production material, although the photographs do document some productions. Of note are files on People's Video's involvement in the leasing of the Madison cable franchise to Complete Channel Television. Files on several related media organizations include Capital Media Associates, Feminists Against Media Oppression, and the Feminists Video Collective. The last-named includes some correspondence with feminist filmmaker Pamela Allen. Materials also document the organization's relationship to funding agencies, VISTA, and the Campaign for Human Development. |

The interviews document textile unionism prior to the formation of the TWUA, as well as discussing major strikes and gains made through collective bargaining. Specific references are made to organizing activities in Illinois, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. The congregation's records consist of a constitution; records of deaths, confirmations, baptisms, marriages, and membership (1852-1955); minutes; and financial notes. The preservation association records include minutes, financial records, and other items. |
| Perry, Willian Norman | Title: Willian Norman Perry Papers, Quantity: 1.4 linear ft. (2 archives boxes and 12 oversize folders). Call Number: WVM Mss 61 Abstract: Papers of William Norman Perry, a sergeant in Company D, 22nd Wisconsin Infantry and later 1st Lieutenant in Company K, 44th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. Letters that he wrote home to his wife, Amie, make up the majority of the collection. The letters are numerous and informative, covering the usual troop movements and conditions faced by soldiers, but also touching upon a prisoner of war experience, hospital stays, and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Also included are various rolls and reports collected by Perry through his role as an officer with the 44th Wisconsin. These documents provide an interesting look at the inner workings of a Union Civil War company. Ephemeral items include a handwritten list of members of the company who kept their government-issued guns and a petition to raise funds to buy a new base drum for the regiment. Personal service records give some details about Perry's service, focusing on his commission with the 44th Wisconsin. Scattered papers from his post-war life in South Dakota mostly focus on his pursuit of a government pension. |

(2 record center cartons, 2 archives boxes, and 4 flat boxes) Call Number: MCHC84-016 Abstract: Papers, 1915-1976, of Dutch journalist Bernard Person, who delivered daily broadcasts to the Nazi-occupied Netherlands during World War II and was later decorated by the Dutch Government. As a newspaper reporter, Person covered the French occupation of the Ruhr and the 1924 trial of Adolf Hitler in Munich. Person brought his family to the United States in March 1939. In 1945, he was assigned to the United Nations representing Dutch newspapers. He remained at that post until 1978, when he retired. The materials, almost entirely in Dutch, document his career in journalism. |
