GPU News was published by the Gay Peoples Union from 1971 to 1976 and by Liberation Publications from 1976 to 1981.

Library Council of Metropolitan Milwaukee	Title: Library Council of Metropolitan Milwaukee Records, 1972-2002 Quantity: 5 cubic ft. (5 boxes); 12 audio cassettes; 4 videocassettes; 2 videoreels; and 4 film reels Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 48 Abstract: Records of an organization founded to foster cooperation between Milwaukee area libraries. The collection includes reports, correspondence, memos, newsletters, financial records, meeting minutes, publications, library directories, and union lists.The records concern a wide range of library services and issues, including archives, collection development, interlibrary loan, interlibrary cooperation, automation, continuing education, legislation and public services. LCOMM organizational functions, including fund-raising, long-range planning and membership and public relations, are documented as well. Other materials of note include copies of the constitution, by-laws, organizational guidelines, and articles of incorporation. The collection contains some non-print media, including slides, films, and video and audio tapes. These are largely of an educational nature and subjects include local labor and ethnic history, histories of Milwaukee neighborhoods and continuing education for librarians.
Library League of La Crosse (La Crosse, Wis.)	Title: Library League of La Crosse Records Physical Description: 0.8 cubic feet Call Number: MSS 014 Abstract: The Library League of La Crosse was founded in 1990 to help raise funds though a Christmas home tour to benefit the La Crosse Public Library. The non-profit organization dissolved in 1998. The collection includes meeting minutes (1990-1998), publicity materials and photographs of the various home tours of La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Lichtenberg, Bernard, 1892-	Title: Bernard Lichtenberg Papers, 1917-1940 Quantity: 2.2 c.f. (15 volumes) Call Number: U.S. Mss 104AF Abstract: Bound papers of a public relations counsel, author, and president of the Institute of Public Relations, Inc. Included are speeches; articles; photographs; printed mattter; biographical clippings relating to his work for the Alexander Hamilton Institute, the Association of National Advertisers, and other professional organizations; and his master's thesis. Letters of congratulation pertaining to Lichtenberg's founding of the Institute of Public Relations comprise two volumes.
Lichty, Sandra	Title: Sandra Lichty: County Mental Hospital Project Records, 1960-1969 Quantity: 4.4 c.f. (4 record center cartons and 1 archives box) Call Number: M80-367 Abstract: Files used by Sandra Lichty in her Ph.D. research at the University of Wisconsin for the County Mental Health Hospital Project. Principal investigator was Dr. Peter Weiss and project director was Dr. Martin Loeb. Materials concern the condition of mental health care centers in Wisconsin in the 1960s. This research into hospitals, clinics, and homes at the county level includes interviews with administrators, social workers, and other staff; records of patient populations and related costs; and needs assessments developed through public hearings and committees. Files also contain the subsequent recommendations and action plans by region, and related academic publications and papers.
Liddy, James, 1934-2008	Title: James Liddy Papers, 1927-2009, bulk 1967-2009 Quantity: 14 cubic ft. (35 boxes); 2 digital video files Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 300 Abstract: The collection documents James Liddy's life as a poet and professor. Liddy was born and raised in Ireland, and after briefly practicing law, he turned to a life of poetry. He moved to San Francisco in 1967 and began teaching poetry and English at various institutions across the U.S. before finally settling down at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1976, where he taught for over 30 years. The collection contains primarily correspondence, literary papers, and general files. Some of his works include: In a Blue Smoke (1964), Baudelaire's Bar Flowers (1975), A White Thought in a White Shade (1987), Collected Poems (1994), and The Doctor’s House (2004).

(96 volumes) and 36 reels of microfilm (35mm) Call Number: Lincoln Series 4 Abstract: Description of real and personal property, assessed value, taxes due on property, and record of payment of taxes. There are rolls for 1879, 1890, decennial years from 1900 to 1950, a few volumes for 1906 to 1926-1929, and every fifth year from 1955 to 1965. Post-1950 records are available only on microfilm. The microfilm portion is listed below, followed by an appendix which notes the years covered by both the volumes in the series (which are unnumbered) and the microfilm.

(2 boxes) Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 95 Abstract: Records of the Lincoln Neighborhood Redevelopment Corporation, a non-profit community development corporation, mostly dating from the 1990s. The collection documents neighborhood improvements, renovation projects, and assistance provided to area residents and businesses. Included are files concerning the establishment of a business improvement district, community development block grants, community reinvestment act matters, including performance evaluations and activity reports, and financial information. Also included in the collection are files documenting the St. Josaphat Basilica square capital improvement project and the Kosciusko Park Lagoon restoration project, as well as photographs documenting renovation projects and the Lincoln Avenue neighborhood.

Present are incoming correspondence, including many letters from officials of the Social-Democratic Party, writings, clippings, and materials pertaining to her music teaching.

(3 archives boxes) Call Number: U.S. Mss 183AF Abstract: Papers of a broadcaster and executive director of the Association of Maximum Service Telecasters (MST), an association of owners of television stations operating at maximum-permitted power. Included are statements, annual reports, and copies of testimony presented before the Federal Communications Commission and other governmental and private groups. These concern such issues as UHF and VHF frequency allocation, interference prevention, spectrum conservation, and cable television.
Lindsay, Howard, 1889-1968; Crouse, Russel, 1893-1966	Title: Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse Papers, 1909-1980 Quantity: 7.6 c.f. (19 archives boxes) Call Number: U.S. Mss 20AN Abstract: Papers of two award-winning playwright-producers who formed one of the most successful collaborations in Broadway history. Some of the collection relates to their joint efforts, some to their work alone. Of their collaborative efforts theatrical materials predominate. Among the plays on which there are files are Anything Goes (1934), Arsenic and Old Lace (1941), Call Me Madam (1950), Detective Story (1949), The Great Sebastians (1956), The Hasty Heart (1945), Life With Father (1939), Life With Mother (1948), The Sound of Music (1956), and State of the Union (1945). The types of documentation present are scripts and drafts, stage directions, clippings, reviews, and contracts. Also included are scripts for adaptations of several of the above titles for television and motion pictures. Among the notable correspondents are S. N. Behrman, Irving Berlin, Theodore Bikel, William O. Douglas, Edna Ferber, Helen Hayes, Irving Paul Lazar, and Alfred Lunt. Lindsay's papers include correspondence, speeches, theatrical scripts, poetry, essays, short stories, and notes on acting, directing, and writing for a text about the theater. Crouse's papers include seven books, newspaper articles, and theater and motion picture scripts.

Call Number: Mss 851; M96-024 Abstract: Papers, mainly 1963-1981, of Michael Lipsky and David J. Olson, two political scientists concerning their collaborative research on the urban race riots of the 1960s and Lipsky's separate research on rent strikes in New York City and materials documenting his involvement in the civil rigts movement. The collection includes biographical information, editorial correspondence, exchanges with professional colleagues, research files, writings, and records documenting Lipsky’s work as special assistant to the chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as a consultant to Upward Bound and Action, and as a Freedom Summer volunteer in 1964.
Lisowski, Michael	Title: Michael Lisowski Papers, 1977-1984 Quantity: .2 cubic ft. (1 box) Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 235 Abstract: Collection consists of subject files assembled by Michael Lisowski, an active member of Milwaukee's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The files relate to various organizations with which Lisowksi was involved--such as the Gay Peoples Union, Gay Counseling Services, and Gay Community at UWM--but few provide substantial evidence of Lisowski's specific contributions or activities. Often, these files contain only ephemera such as brochures and fliers. Several files pertain to the Gay Peoples Union, documenting that organization's efforts to unify the Milwaukee gay and lesbian community around issues of police harassment, establishment of a community center, and coalition building. Lisowski was vice president of the organization in 1978.
Little Review (Chicago, Ill.)	Title: Little Review Records, 1914-1964 Quantity: 4.4 cubic ft. (12 boxes); 1 oversize folder Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 1 Abstract: Collection contains the editorial files of the Little Review, an international magazine of the arts. Almost all of the records date from 1914 to 1929. The bulk of the collection consists of corrected and uncorrected galleys of works, correspondence, holograph manuscripts, and typescripts. Also contains the administrative files of editors Margaret Anderson and Jane Heap, which include correspondence concerning subscriptions and advertising; letters from Ezra Pound; and letters from John Quinn, a financial backer of the magazine and the publication's lawyer in the case concerning the government's seizure of the issue containing James Joyce's Ulysses. The collection contains a small amount of layout materials for various issues; photographs and reproductions, usually published in the magazine; and newsclippings (1920-1964) about Anderson, Heap, and the Little Review.

The papers consist of correspondence, memos, notes, and materials related to various ideologies, causes, and events. Organizations documented include the communist organization Line of March and its publication Frontline as well as its national Marxist-Leninist Education Project, the United States Anti-Imperialist League, and the Madison Common Sense Coalition. Also included are materials relating to Jesse Jackson’s presidential campaigns, gay and women’s rights, and labor issues.

Included are correspondence concerning investments, homes in Maine and Georgia, and breeding of basset hounds; a Livingston family genealogy; sympathy cads and estate papers following Crawford's death in 1925; and business correspondence, 1925, of stockbroker Walter Price, a partner in the Livingston firm.
