Abstract:

Artificial collection of still images pertaining to Civil War battlefield monuments erected to honor Wisconsin soldiers who fought at the battles of Chickamauga, Shiloh, and Vicksburg. Included are photographs, postcards, and sketches of individual regiment markers and State of Wisconsin monuments erected on the battlefields. Some of the photographs show details of individual monuments and a few show veterans posing next to monuments of their respective regiments. One interesting photograph shows Charles Harris, who served as colonel of the 11th Wisconsin Infantry during the Siege of Vicksburg, posing next to the monument for his regiment. The postcards and sketches pertain to monuments erected at Vicksburg, except for two that show the monument at Chickamauga for the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry. The 21st Missouri Infantry Regiment marker from Shiloh is included in this collection due to the fact that a Wisconsin detachment was attached to the regiment during a skirmish.
