Biography/History

The Foreign Type Cheesemakers' Association, with headquarters at Monroe, Wisconsin, was organized in 1922. It took over the Southern Wisconsin Cheese Makers and Dairymens Association in 1934. The Association operates in the foreign cheese industry, mainly Swiss and Limburger, and during the time covered by these records maintained a laboratory in Monroe for the purpose of advancing the latest methods for producing quality cheese.

During the time of this collection the association's president was Otto Anderegg and the secretary-treasurer was William Ienatsch. Members were drawn from cheesemaking centers in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, and totaled 109 in the years 1944 and 1945. According to the Wisconsin Blue Book for 1964, the laboratory was still being operated in Monroe, and Mr. Ienatsch was still serving as secretary of the Association.
