Abstract:
Papers of several generations of a family with connections to Shullsburg, Wisconsin. Primarily documented by incoming correspondence are Isaac W. Glines, who came to Wisconsin in 1829 from Marietta, Ohio; his son Edward James, who served in the 3rd Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War; his daughters Marietta Glines Lloyd and Hellen Glines James and their husbands; and his granddaughter Geneva Helen James, who managed a farm in the Shullsburg area.
In addition to letters about health, travel, business, and general family matters, the collection includes miscellaneous farm account books, memorabilia, genealogies, high quality local ephemera, a photocopied scrapbook about local residents who served in World War I, and Isaac Glines' historical writings about the early days of Schullsburg from the Southwestern Local. Much of the 19th century family correspondence has been transcribed by the donor. Marvin, Ware, and Rogers family connections are also represented in the collection. A few photographs received with the collection represent Shullsburg about 1920.
