Abstract:

Consists mainly of minutes, newsletters, and correspondence documenting the educational, social, and charitable activities of the Women's League. The collection also contains information on the Senior-itas which was one of the league's interest groups. The league's mission was to provide service to the university, create friendship within the university, and promote the interests of the university.

The Women's League of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was formed in 1956. Membership was open to current and retired female faculty and staff and to the wives of current, retired, or deceased faculty and staff. The league voted to have the organization dissolved in June 1987 due to decreasing membership; however, the Senior-itas interest group continued after the league's dissolution.

The files are organized alphabetically by subject, then chronologically.

Acquisition Information

An unknown donor donated the collection to the Archives prior to 1989. Marianna Markowetz donated additional materials in 1994. Marilyn John donated additional material in FY2000 (accession 2000-015). Connie Jo donated accession 2008-047 to the Archives in January 2009. Marilyn Wolff John donated a few additional materials in August 2018 (accession 2018-022).

Processing Information

Kathy Koch processed the collection at the Archives in November 1997. Nancy Thomadsen processed and integrated the 2000-015 accession into the collection in March 2006. Christel Maass added several miscellaneous items to the collection in August 2006. Brad Houston processed accession 2008-047 in January 2010. Christel Maass added accession 2018-022 to the collection in January 2019.
