Abstract:

The collection consists largely of the correspondence files of the department chair with the dean of the College of Letters & Science, prospective students, faculty, and other campus officials concerning recruitment, funding, budgeting, appointments and curriculum. The collection also contains background materials, agendas and minutes of the departmental meetings, executive committees and several other intra-departmental committees; and graduate program reviews and proposals.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was created in 1956 by the merger of the Wisconsin State College, Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin Extension Division. The Dept. of Mathematics was established at the merger. In 1978, the name of the Dept. of Mathematics was changed to the Dept. of Mathematical Sciences.

An unknown individual transferred this collection to the archives sometime prior to 1989. The department transferred additional materials to the Archives in December 2013 (accession 2013-030).

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
