Abstract: Records largely consisting of minutes of various committees,
correspondence, planning documents, reports, manuals, handbooks, brochures, several
newsletters, as well as unclassified personnel files (restricted). The collection documents
proposals and the planning and development of graduate programs and courses; policies and
procedures; staffing, budgeting, and research; admissions and enrollments. The collection
also documents activities of the Graduate School research centers including the Center for
Great Lakes Studies and the Great Lakes Research Facility, the Center for Twentieth Century
Studies, the Center for Women's Studies, the Laboratory for Surface Studies, the Urban
Research Center, the UW System Institute on Race and Ethnicity and its predecessor, the
Center for the Study of Minorities and Disadvantaged Students. Materials documenting the
activities of the Office of Industrial Research and Technology Transfer, the Office of
International Studies and Programs, and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs are
also included. The collection also contains photographs taken for various Graduate School
publications and news releases.
