The Coulee Region Audubon Society started out as the La Crosse Audubon Society in 1965. In late 1995 the group voted to become a chapter affiliated with the National Audubon Society and changed their name to the Coulee Region Audubon Society. The members wanted to gain more members, form partnerships with other chapters, create a wider scope, and focus attention on the Upper Mississippi River area. The group continues today.
Records of the Coulee Region Audubon Society include a constitution and by-laws adopted circa 1965 by the La Crosse Audubon Society, general correspondence (1965-1988), correspondence with the National Audubon Society and the Wisconsin Audubon Council (1965-1987), a list of field trips (1965-1978), meeting meetings of the board (1965-1979) and with the membership (1965-1979), a few undated items from the membership committee, membership lists (1974-1986), newspaper clippings (1970-1981), and lastly treasurer’s reports (1979, 1982, 1988).
