Common Council resolutions & reports relating to the Council's Judiciary committee (sometimes referred to as the Committee on Judiciary & City Attorney), 1856-1932. The materials are arranged chronologically. There isn't any further indexing to this collection at this time other than what the City Clerk has on index cards. Today the committee is called Judiciary & Administration. Examples of legal matters the Committee on Judiciary dealt with are tax redemptions, claims against the city, citizen petitions, and the like. English

Scope and Contents
Common Council resolutions and reports began to be organized by a numbering system in Dec. 1932. Before that time the resolutions were kept folded up in chronological order, roughly by subject or Council committee (such as Parks, Judiciary, Fire, Police, etc.). This set of pre-1932 resolutions represents those labeled as Judiciary, and date from the beginning of city government in 1856.
The resolutions consist generally of tax redemptions (personal property, real estate, assessments, special assessments), claims against the city, some citizen petitions calling for new or rewritten ordinances, and the like. Coverage before 1870 is scarce, and the period of 1907-1910 is sparse.
Arrangement
Original order of these resolutions and reports has been maintained. Currently, the only subject access to those is through the City Clerk who maintains a card file. Some of the very brittle paper has been deacidified, and some items encapsulated.
