Abstract: Papers of Bernhard C. Ziegler, a prominent West Bend, Wisconsin, businessman, manufacturer of aluminum cookware, and civic leader, and of his wife Edna, a local history and cultural arts leader. Included are correspondence, diaries, subject files, and family papers. Bernhard C. Ziegler's correspondence and subject files relate to his affairs as head of the West Bend Aluminum Company, B.C. Ziegler and Company, and the First National Bank of West Bend. Edna Ziegler's diaries, correspondence, and papers relate to her activities in the Washington County Historical Society, cultural arts programs, the Wisconsin Arts Foundation and Council, and the Ziegler Foundation. The collection also contains personal correspondence, biographical material, and genealogical material on the Eickelberg, Fick, and Ziegler families.

Abstract: Papers of a foreign correspondent, author, and radio news commentator for WLW in Cincinnati, Ohio. The collection consists largely of radio news scripts for wartime programs such as Background on the News and Views of the News, but also includes some writings, correspondence, and memorabilia. Writings include a draft of an article for Look, a manuscript fragment of Two Thousand and Ten Days of Hitler (1940) written by Ziemer's daughter, and two chapters of an unpublished volume on life in Germany before World War II. The correspondence includes five boxes of listener mail, personal letters, and some exchanges pertaining to the production of news programs. Single letters are present from John H. Bankhead, John W. Bricker, Hans V. Kaltenborn, and Lyndon B. Johnson. The memorabilia includes clippings, programs, and press releases.

Abstract: Papers, mostly in Polish, of Zietara, a Polish native who served in the Polish underground army (Armia Krajowa) prior to immigrating to Milwaukee in 1948. Included are letters to Leon and Irene Zietara from family and friends in Poland, England, France, and Canada; his notebooks from classes taken at a Scotland refugee camp following World War II; identification, military, and travel papers, some issued by the Polish Government in Exile; and other items.

Abstract: Papers of James G. Zimmerman, a Wisconsin inventor, consisting primarily of his research and patent applications for various inventions. Prominent inventions documented include color photograph processing, a dry cell storage battery, a Shadograf machine, an automatic pencil eraser, and an internal combustion engine (the Lawrence engine). Also includes correspondence between Zimmerman and Paul A. Lawrence, brothers Clarence Irving Zimmerman and Oliver B. Zimmerman, and various companies primarily regarding the aforementioned inventions; and diaries and class notes documenting his years at the university as a student in electrochemical engineering.

Abstract: Papers of former Wisconsin Secretary of State Robert C. (“Zim”) Zimmerman, who served from 1957 until his retirement in 1975. The papers consist largely of chronologically arranged scrapbooks assembled by Zimmerman and his wife, Dorothy. Included are clippings, correspondence, memorabilia, and photographs that reflect both his personal life (travel, marriage, golf) and his political life and involvement in Republican politics.

Abstract: Papers, mainly diaries (1954-2001), but also several scrapbooks (circa 1927-1932), and a household cashbook (1939-1954) of a Menomonee Falls farm wife (married to Nick Zindl, August 24, 1929). The diaries contain commentary on local weather and events, family events, daily chores, national and international news, as well as clippings, greeting cards, and receipts. The scrapbooks contain clippings, drawings, poems, greeting cards, and ephemera.

Abstract: Papers of Howard Zinn, an historian and social activist, primarily concerning his research on the civil rights movement and his personal involvement with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) during the 1960s. Included are research notes, correspondence, personal writings, clippings, and SNCC reports and press releases. Much of this material pertains directly to Zinn's research for two reports on Albany, Georgia, published in 1962 by the Southern Regional Council, and to Zinn's book SNCC: The New Abolitionists, published in 1965. There is also correspondence concerning Zinn's advisory role to SNCC as well as extensive notes taken at two key SNCC meetings in 1963. Articles by Zinn, correspondence, and reference files pertaining to black power and SNCC's position on Vietnam document SNCC's evolution in the period 1965-1968.

Abstract: Records of a Shawano County, Wis., congregation established in 1864 as an Evangelical Church and originally located southeast of Bonduel in the Town of Hartland, and of the pastoral circuits to which it belonged. The records consist of two volumes of records, 1875-1915, in German, documenting membership, baptisms, and marriages, and containing other briefer entries for the circuits serving Seymour, Cicero, Black Creek, Hartland (Zion), Green Valley, Gillett, Howe, and Richmond congregations; and two volumes of transcribed translations of Bonduel congregation records of baptisms, marriages, and deaths, 1869-1982, and trustees' minutes, 1874-1911.
Zippert, John S. Title: John S. Zippert Papers, 1965-1966

Abstract: Papers of John S. Zippert, a Congress of Racial Equality worker in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, who organized farmers into marketing and agricultural cooperatives. Zippert, a history student and former student government president at City College of New York, went to Louisiana in the summer of 1965, and stayed to continue his work. The papers illustrate his efforts to organize the Grand Marie Vegetable Producers Co-operative, Inc., Sunset, Louisiana (also known as the Grand Marie Sweet Potato Co-operative), to market sweet potatoes, with future plans to open supply cooperatives and canning operations. Also in 1966, Zippert helped write the Rural Community Visitors Proposal, designed to bring information on federal assistance programs, civil rights, and voter education to poor people in rural areas. Copies of the proposal (in varying forms) are present in the collection, with organizational papers, promotional items, and progress reports of the Grand Marie Co-operative; flyers, material on political candidates for local offices, and a letter from Zippert to his draft board, summarizing his work in Louisiana.
