Entries show instrument number and name, names of grantor and grantee, description of land, volume and page where recorded, to whom delivered, and amount of fee received. This microfilm was produced by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 1987, which holds the master negatives. Originals are in the Vernon County Register of Deeds Office, Viroqua, Wisconsin. (Vernon County was formed under the name of Bad Ax County in 1851 and existed under that name until 1862.) |

The collection includes correspondence, biographical material, clippings, writings, tape recordings, a film, and groups of personal papers of Rocky Versace and of Sister Mary Aquinas, the “flying nun,” about whom Mrs. Versace planned to write a biography. |

(2 record center cartons), 31 photographs and 24 negatives Call Number: M2000-117 Abstract: Records of Veterans for Peace (VFP), an activist group devoted to curtailing U.S. military intervention in other countries. The collection includes correspondence, memoranda, case files, project files, news clippings and photographs of meetings and activities. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence with various VFP chapters and their membership as well as information on a delegation of VFP members who traveled to Nicaragua in 1990 to observe the presidential elections there. |

(2 boxes); 5 safety film negatives Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 136 Abstract: This collection consists of the records of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Brown Deer Memorial Post 8099. Included are business and activity records, photographs, news clippings, correspondence, and memorabilia documenting the members' commitment to serve within their community. The post's activities included bell-ringing for the Salvation Army, sponsoring scholarships at Brown Deer Middle and High Schools, volunteering at the local veterans medical center, selling VFW Poppies, and marching in Brown Deer's 4th of July Parade. Over the years, they also donated MIA/POW and American flags to the community. The "White Hat Papers" included in the collection were sent into the "All-State Post Commanders" competition, which is the highest recognition that a post commander can receive. The post closed in 1998 due to membership decline and member inactivity. Most of the information in this collection is from 1987 to 1998. |

Ladies Auxilary. | Title: Veterans of World War I of the U.S.A., La Crosse County Barracks 1650, Ladies Auxilary Records Physical Description: 1.2 cubic feet Call Number: MSS 035 Abstract: Mainly scrapbooks of a La Crosse, Wisconsin, chapter of the national U.S. group the Veterans of World War I Auxiliary, arranged chronologically from 1959-1985. These contain some meeting minutes, membership rosters, newspaper articles, and photographs. There are a few other materials not included in the scrapbooks, such as notes of meeting minutes from 1984; correspondence from the Department of Wisconsin secretary regarding state conventions from 1984; membership lists from 1971; three issues of the Veterans of World War I : What's Going On in Wisconsin newspaper from 1984-1986; and extensive photographs and biographical material about Arthur G. Mossong. Mossong (1897-1981) was a lifelong resident of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and he served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He helped organize Veterans of World War I and Department of Wisconsin, and the Fond du Lac County Barracks 1354. The Veterans of World War I Auxiliary La Crosse Barracks 1650 disbanded in 1989. |

Call Number: WVM Mss 905 Abstract: Records of the Walworth County, Wisconsin organization composed entirely of World War I veterans and dedicated to advancing the causes of those who fought in the First World War through increased benefits and recognition. Includes fairly complete records from the organization's inception in 1963 through its dissolution in 1991. Meeting minutes provide insight into their activities, with early minutes showing active membership recruitment and efforts to secure pro-veteran legislation while minutes from the later years show a dramatic drop in membership due to deaths and difficulty holding meetings due to the age of members. Also in this collection are bank statements, cancelled checks, and reports that show large amounts of money being acquired through membership dues in the 1960s and '70s, with that amount declining significantly in the '80s. Correspondence deals largely with the term of Barracks #3241 member Claire Congdon as Commander of the Department of Wisconsin from 1985 to 1986. Also from Congdon's term as Department Commander are meeting minutes and other materials relating to the Veterans of World War I's participation in several state veterans institutions such as the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, State Council of Commanders, and Veterans Council. Also included are meeting minutes, financial records, and membership lists from the women's auxiliary. The materials show a similar decline in membership and resources as the members aged, as well as similar concerns for supporting and recognizing aging and deceased members. A sympathy card log documents their concern for the families of deceased members. A photograph shows five members of the barracks at the final meeting, after voting to disband the organization in 1991. |

Call Number: WVM Mss 56 Abstract: Records and photographs of a voluntary fraternal association of World War I veterans and their auxiliary dedicated to ensuring proper recognition and benefits for their sacrifices. The records are very scattered, but include correspondence relating to the chartering of individual barracks in Wisconsin, departmental convention materials, and papers relating to the political activities of the group to ensure proper pensions and other benefits. Records from the auxiliary are similarly scattered, but include some financial records, a group history, several ephemeral scrapbooks, and a number of administrative reports. Photographs contain shots from several departmental conventions in the 1960's and the chartering of several local barracks. |

Mass mailings, many of which were issued by steering committee coordinator Ronald G. Wolin, concern participation in numerous marches and demonstrations and make up the bulk of the collection. A limited quantity of correspondence includes exchanges with veterans' peace organizations around the country and letters from Floyd B. McKissick, David M. Shoup, Arnold C. True, and Dalton Trumbo. |
