Prior to his election to the Assembly, Slagg served as Assistant District Attorney. The papers consist of legislative subject files reflecting the issues with which Slagg was involved and constituent, legal, and personal correspondence. |

The collection includes genealogical materials; writings of her husband, Moses Slaughter, and other family members and friends; papers from Moses Slaughter's 1918-1919 work in Italy for the American Red Cross; correspondence, 1864-1899, among her parents (Joseph and Elizabeth Taylor), family, and friends, and to and from Mrs. Slaughter (1868-1958), including letters to “Nancy” Allinson; and travel notes, including descriptions of climate, scenery, and social life and customs in Europe, the Middle East, and the West Indies. Also includes drafts and notes of her writings, some written in collaboration with Lilliam Dykstra, including reviews of Mrs. Slaughter's work and a draft of her autobiography, Only the Past Is Ours. |
Slichter, Donald Charles, 1900-1978 | Title: Donald C. Slichter Papers, 1936-1978 Quantity: 1.2 c.f. (3 archives boxes) Call Number: Mss 573 Abstract: Papers of Donald C. Slichter, a prominent Wisconsin business executive and civic leader documenting his later-life professional and civic activities. Slichter was president of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company (NWL), was active in Milwaukee civic and University of Wisconsin alumni affairs, and headed several educational studies. Besides materials such as speeches, awards, and related correspondence documenting Slichter's personal activities, this collection contains a large number of congratulatory letters written to Slichter as president of NWL which throw some light on the company's history and operation; correspondence between Slichter and Karl Paul Link, the Nobel Prize-winning biochemist. and with Warren Knowles, Governor of Wisconsin, 1965-1970; correspondence, reports, and newspaper clippings documenting many of Slichter's University of Wisconsin and civic activities; and a file of correspondence, writings, and clippings by and concerning Slichter's brother Sumner, a Harvard economist. |

Included for such programs as Meet the Press and David Brinkley's Journal are correspondence and interdepartmental memoranda, extensive script files, routines, and shooting schedules; advertising correspondence and copy; promotional scripts for other NBC programs; set designs; technical documents of various kinds, and films. |

Sloan, a prominent New York City businessman active in the Business Advisory Council of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Cotton Textile Institute, the U.S. Council of the International Chamber of Commerce, and the Metropolitan Opera Association, as well as national Republican politics, particularly the presidential election of 1952. The papers include correspondence, speeches, newspaper clippings, and articles demonstrating Sloan's interest in managerial, labor, and social problems. The bulk of the collection is comprised of correspondence including exchanges with Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Alfred M. Gruenther, Cordell Hull, Sir Rudolf Bing, Herbert Hoover, H. Wendell Endicott, Billy Rose, Estes Kefauver, John Foster Dulles, Thomas E. Dewey, William O. Douglas, and others. Also present is information on the national textile strike of 1934. |
