Part 17 (2007/128): Additions, 1978-2001 10.0 cubic feet (10 records center cartons) : Records, 1978-2001 (but mainly 1993-2001), of several teams of budget analysts
documenting not only the normal financial monitoring of the agencies for which they were
responsible, but also their participation in special departmental studies. The
documented teams are Education, Health and Family Services, and most extensively,
Environment, Commerce, and Resources (ECR). The Education files of Peter Maternowski
entirely concern the University of Wisconsin budget and his participation in a study to
better educate the Wisconsin workforce for the challenges of electronic technology. The
Health and Family Services team is represented by the files of several analysts. Most
extensive here are records on the planning and implementation of W-2 (Wisconsin Works)
and Family Care, the Wisconsin long-term health care program. The ECR files solely
document the work of the team leader, David Schmiedicke. In addition to extensive files
on the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), the Department
of Development (DOD), and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Schemiedicke
participated in studies of the PECFA (Petroleum Environmental Cleanup Fund), LUST (Leaky
Underground Storage Tanks), Brownfields pollution programs, and in reviews of the Pettit
Ice Center and the Wisconsin State Fair.
