Wisconsin. Marketing Division: Correspondence and Subject Files, 1954-1976

Scope and Content Note

The files of the Marketing Division were received by the Historical Society from various sources within the Division, at various times, and in various stages of disarray. The files are not complete central files of the Division, but they do provide information on a cross section of the Division's promotional activities, especially for the 1960s.

Because the files were so unorganized, a new filing system had to be created. Materials were organized by subject (e.g., “Meat”) and subcategory (e.g., “Meat - Beef”) within a subject and more or less chronologically thereunder.

The container list following gives the box and folder numbers for subjects and subcategories within subjects, but does not list every folder title. Materials within a particular subject include such things as scheduling of promotional events, miscellaneous correspondence with all levels of society about Wisconsin products, reports on conferences and events, and promotional campaigns, as well as agricultural fair binders, divisional and bureau reports, etc. These files contain virtually nothing on the Division's work with cooperatives and very little on the Division's inspection and grading programs.
