Records of the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC), a state teachers organization affiliated with the National Education Association. Founded as the Wisconsin Teachers' Association (1853-1935), then known as the Wisconsin Education Association (1935-1972), this organization originally encompassed teachers and educational administrators and worked for the general improvement of education and of schools. Since the 1960s, however, the association has effectively changed from a professional organization to a labor organization. The records document the changes in the organization over the years, and include some files from Wisconsin Educators Politically Active and Concerned (WEPAC), a political action group aligned with the Wisconsin Education Association Council.
