Gerald and Crawford Livingston Papers, 1920-1933

Scope and Content Note

Most of this collection consists of Gerald M. Livingston's private business correspondence and financial papers. Also included are the personal business papers of his father, Crawford Livingston, and papers dealing with the settlement of Crawford Livingston's estate. There is, in addition, one folder of correspondence of Walter Price and a folder of Livingston genealogy. The collection is arranged in three series, GERALD M. LIVINGSTON, CRAWFORD LIVINGSTON, and WALTER PRICE.

The GERALD M. LIVINGSTON papers are arranged in two categories. The Correspondence and Financial Papers, 1920-1933, concern his homes in Maine and New York, as well as his game preserve plantation, the Georgia-Florida Farms, outside Dixie, Georgia; his interest in breeding, training, and showing basset hounds; the Kilsyth Corporation, which included a dairy farm and kennels; Perrins Children's Trust; his personal views on and investments in stocks, including the Zieley Processes Corporation, Northern Pacific Railroad, Chicago Great Western Railroad Company, Yards Securities Company, Hotel Huntington Corporation, and state and local bonds in Oklahoma, Washington, Maine, New York and Missouri; his political opinions; and various family matters, including Jay S. Simpson's investigation of Livingston's direct ancestors. There is little concerning Livingston & Co. The papers are arranged chronologically by year, and alphabetically by correspondent or subject thereunder. The Genealogical Papers document Gerald M. Livingston's direct paternal ancestors to the ninth generation of this noted New York family.

CRAWFORD LIVINGSTON'S papers include three categories. The Correspondence and Financial Papers, 1920-1925, concern personal business matters including his homes in Maine and New York; his stock investments in the Northern Pacific Railroad, Corn Exchange Bank, and Jackson Light and Traction Company, as well as state and local bonds in New York, Maine, Minnesota, and the Territory of Hawaii; numerous investment offers; his political opinions; and family matters. There are some references to Livingston & Co. The papers are arranged chronologically by year, and alphabetically by correspondent or subject thereunder. Sympathy Cards consisting of notes to the Livingston family following the death of Crawford Livingston are arranged alphabetically by correspondent. The Estate of Crawford Livingston materials, 1925-1928, is comprised of correspondence and family papers dealing with the settlement and distribution of the estate among the heirs. Included is information concerning Crawford's state and local bonds in New York, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, and Massachusetts; the Rothschild Building in St. Paul, Minnesota; and lists of other stock investments sold or divided among the heirs. The papers are arranged chronologically by year, and alphabetically by correspondent or subject thereunder.

The WALTER PRICE series consists of one folder of correspondence, dated 1925, during his tenure with Livingston & Co.
