Toy Show, 1970 NovemberEnglish, Yiddish Writer: S. Ansky; Leon Katz Director: Rina Yerulshalmi Ensemble: [none] This video contains minimal documentation of the November 1970 production of Toy Show, directed by Rina Yerushalmi. There are a few seconds of footage of the set, but most of the digitized video has no content. Toy Show is one of several adaptations Leon Katz created in the early 1970s of S. Ansky's The Dybbuk, an early 20th-century Russian/Yiddish-language play about a woman being possessed by a malicious spirit, known as a dybbuk in Jewish mythology. This production emerged out of an ongoing creative collaboration between Katz and Yerushalmi, for whose final MFA project (in theater directing, from Carnegie Mellon University) Katz had served as mentor. Video documentation of Shekhina, another of Katz's adaptations of The Dybbuk, directed by Yerushalmi at La MaMa in December 1971, is contained on Reel A4.

Nevele Adams' Memorial Ceremony, 1972 October 24English Writer: [none] Director: [none] Ensemble: [none] Nevele Adams' Memorial Ceremony, held at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club on October 24, 1972. Adams, credited as Nevele Adams, performed in four productions at La MaMa: The Maids (1970), A Cheap Trick (1970), La Marie Vision (1970), and Cops and Robbers (1971). There is at least one photograph of Nevele in La MaMa's collections. The ceremony consists primarily of songs and poems written about Nevele, as well as one song and three poems written by Adams. The woman who performs the entire ceremony, with piano and guitar accompaniment, seems to have been in a relationship with Nevele. While introducing a song called “Oh Jimmy,” she mentions that Adams' real name was James Dennis Adams and his family called him Jimmy. She also sings one song that she explains was written for someone else but was relevant to her relationship with Nevele. The final song, called “Silver Shoes,” she wrote for Nevele after his death. The tape ends as she's playing an audiotape recording of herself reading some of Nevele's poems that he planned to burn after she returned them to him. She made the audiotape, three or four years prior to his death, to preserve these poems.
